I did a painting for my boyfriend's birthday. He loves Star Wars and his favorite chracter is Boba Fett. I have obviously painted Boba before and I really enjoyed it! I knew this would be a good gift a good wrap up to an awesome project!!! I have many areas for improvement, but I think this painting was really fun and a way to show others my progress. I know there are two chracters that were pretty rough, but I think overall this is my best painting. I hope that you have enjoyed this process just as much as I have, and I know that in the future I will definitely use the many different art styles I explored!!!

I completed four paintings this week because I know that next week I am going to revisit a medium for a birthday present. Watercolor was weird to use, but it was far better than some of the other mediums. I enjoyed using it because I decided how thick or thin the consistency should be because it would help determine the strength of the color. I would like to use watercolor on a coloring book in the future because I think it would be a cool twist. I wasn't able to get any supplies for my oil pastels and as you could tell from last week, it was pretty rough not having the proper tools. I decided to work with my acrylic paint some more and I decided to do some abstract art. I know this isn't what we were expecting, but because of these 'unprecedented times', I had to change it up a little bit. I hope that watercolor goes as planned, but at this rate, I'll use the wrong water or not enough color. I only painted one picture this week because I didn't have all of the supplies needed for oil pastels. I need oil pastel paper specifically for oil pastels and I need blending sticks that I didn't use for sketching. Walmart was completely sold out of 90% of its art supplies and I wasn't able to go to a Michaels or Hobby Lobby type place. I tried using my fingers to blend the pastels and it didn't work too well. Hopefully next week I can get the supplies I need, and maybe I can move on with my project. This week went better than last week that is for sure, but I had the same issue with my pastels breaking. I found it was easier to blend the colors with my fingers rather than a brush. I thought drawing a sunset over the ocean would be hard, but I found it was fairly easy. I am not too sure if I will use pastels again shortrly, but when I am a more experienced artist I might try again. Week 7. It's crazy how Genius Hour is over halfway over. I started using soft pastels and I will not lie, they are hard to use. They were extremely fragile and broke every few strokes. I was only able to complete two paintings/drawings because my pastels kept breaking. I have to go and buy a new pack for next week. My boyfriend's fish died and I decided one of my pictures should be dedicated to SwimShady. I hope next week will go better than this week did. My life this past weekI am slightly late to this blog post because I was visiting my mom. After all, as of tomorrow, she will be working on the COVID-19 unit at her hospital, my stepmom is also working in one at her hospital. I'm not too sure about what will happen, but hopefully, everything will go well! The art itselfI still do not like painting with oil paint. It is messy, smells bad, and all-around difficult to work with. I am not super satisfied with my artwork over the past two weeks, but I think it went a lot better than it would've at the very beginning. I only completed 4 paintings of total because of school work and visiting my mom. This past week I painted a tree with orange and yellow leaves. I also tried painting the Antigone mask from the beginning of the semester because I miss class and the Bromies, Owen, Christine, and Kaitlyn. This past week I started working with oil paint and so far I do not like it. Oil paint smells bad, is hard to wash off of brushes, and takes forever to dry. The paint is very thick and hard to spread and blend at first. After failing at doing a basic stick figure to see how oil worked I realized this is going to be harder than I thought. I only did two paintings because I may or may not have started them yesterday. This past week was kinda hectic with school cancellations, coronavirus, and online school startups. I only did two paintings this week, but I like them. I always see sunset paintings on Instagram and I wanted to paint one. I also painted a euphonium because Owen told me to. I enjoyed painting with acrylic paint and I will use acrylic again! I was super motivated this past week to get these paintings done, I took time to truly work on them and I'm proud of myself. Personally, my favorite painting was the Boba Fett one on day 3, and I am excited about what will be coming later next week! |
